Year

2021

livi Bank is one of the eight virtual bank in Hong Kong where it aims building a trustworthy and secure digital first bank that can bring everyday delights and rewards to customers. The bank would like to introduce a more flexible payment method to the market – its first split purchase product

livi PayLater

There were two major hurdles. Back in 2020, the majority of Hong Kong were still unfamiliar with the concept of virtual banks, so it was essential to ensure the UX to be trust-worthy and transparent. Split purchase products such as Atome and Hoolah, were also still novelties to the general public. So the UX needed to be simple but comprehensive, to ensure our users feel guided and comfortable. A lot of work had to be done. But first, we had to speak to our customers

What's the challenge?

UI Design

In terms of UX design, we offer control and flexibility, by allowing users to decide the maximum for each installment purchase, the period and the amount for each repayment, all packed nicely in a simple calculator. In the same page users can also view the transaction charge, which is the transparency they longed for.

Every time customer made a purchase with the livi card, any purchase that falls under their preset criteria will be automatically included to their installment scheme. Of course, notifications will be send to them as confirmation. And Voilà, an installment is made with breeze.

How we answered

From the interviews, we learnt our users wanted ease and control. An easy to navigate application, with control of the amount of installment of each purchase. Most of all, they wanted to avoid any unexpected fees or charges, which can affect their credit score.

What they wanted

Instalment meter

Every successful purchase which turns into instalment will be displayed in the account detail page so that users can view all of their open instalments at a glance. Tapping into each instalment detail, an animated arch will be displayed to represent the repayment status of the instalment.

Smooth and safe experience

By having default repayment amount and period preset. Users do not have to set up anything in order to make an instalment happen when they check out. They will also receive notification instantly every time when an instalment was successfully made. Users are also allowed to change the repayment period once for every single instalment before its first statement was issued.

Instalment calculator

The instalment calculator is placed at multiple spots before and after application. With the calculator, users can easily calculate how much the repayment will be, as well as the handling fee and how long they need to repay. The amount and repay period can also be edited in order to fit into users scenario better.
